So the digging started on Monday. I was surprised at how fast they dug this mammoth hole. It was essentially done in 2 days.
My part was to salvage as many of those really great round river rocks as I could manage to move each night. It seems so wasteful to just cover them up again. My goal was to move 3 barrows-full each night from the dirt pile around to the porch-that-will-be outside my bedroom door. The first night, Oliver helped me and after I loaded, pushed and dumped the first barrow-full, then sat on the step to catch my breath, he observed, "Wow, your face is really red!"

This is good. You've been telling me about this, but now I get a real sense of how big its going to be. Seems just about right. Modest, but enough to accommodate. Can't wait to see it all done! Tell those builders to hurry up!
oh, and I'm highly amused that Oliver pointed out the color of your face.
How did they dig that so fast??! They must have had a backhoe or something, right? Because I remember it taking two days to dig a 2 by 2 hole 6 inches down.
